Kaz decides to settle some old Chaotic scores by playing a series of grudge matches with his Ancient Creature scans. But his friends worry that he may accidentally reveal their secret portal to the past. Kaz’s rematch marathon is super-successful until he challenges the sinister Sam Shady, who has a secret of his own!

But he's shocked to discover that Klay's got a surprise of his own that demolishes Kaz's strategy. Meanwhile, Tom travels to Perim where he tries to scan the elusive Yokkis, an OverWorld prankster of the lowest order.

While exploring Kiru City, Tom and Kaz have an unexpected encounter with Bodal, the most annoying Overworlder in Perim. In exchange for a rare scan, Tom agrees to use Bodal in his next Chaotic battle. Unfortunately Bodal isn't just annoying, he's a weakling! Tom places Bodal in a 'safe' position in a 6 on 6 battle. But unexpected events make Bodal the pivotal player as Tom's bargain puts his record in jeopardy.

Tom learns that his friend Sarah has been captured by the Danians while on a secret Pillar Mountain scan mission. Tom, Kaz and Peyton stage a daring rescue assault only to be captured themselves. With their scanners now in Danian 'hands', the boys must rely on Sarahss secret weapon as she hatches a last ditch plan to trick the Danians into aiding their escape.

When Tom and Kaz foil her plan to trap an unsuspecting OverWorlder, Krystella secretly teams with their arch-enemy Klay to get her revenge. In the Drome, Tom is shocked to learn that Klay knows his every move and is prepared to demolish his deck thanks to Krystella's treachery and a unique piece of BattleGear called the Flux Bauble. Tom has to think waaaay out of the box to come up with a strategy to defeat the devious duo.

Reggie, a wealthy Chaotic player, offers Tom and Kaz a slew of ultra-rare cards if they'll go to Perim and return his lost Code Scanner to his 'other self.' But first the guys must get to Castle Bodhran, Reggie's last known location. Despite Kaz's warning, Tom risks his prized Maxxor card in Challenge Match to win the rare Castle Location Card.

The search for Reggie takes a traumatic turn as Tom and Kaz are captured by the leader of the OverWorld, Maxxor. Though angered by Maxxor's distrust of humans, the guys join Maxxor and Frafdo as they travel deep into the desert to find Reggie, who's being held by a malevolent Mipedian. Eventually Tom and Maxxor must conquer their mutual distrust to conquer the common enemy who threatens their survival.

Kaz is shocked when he's summoned to a secret meeting by Chaor, his Chaotic hero. The Lord of the UnderWorld orders Kaz to battle against Van Bloot in a Drome Match to uncover the suspected traitor's secrets and strategies. Kaz happily agrees and quickly finds an opponent willing to battle as Van Bloot. What Kaz doesn't realize is that he's the pawn in a dangerous UnderWorld power struggle his hero might not survive.

Peyton and Krystella clash after a series of snaps leads to a 'Boys versus Girls' match. As the battle of the sexes rages, Sarah tells Tom the story of Intress, a female OverWorld warrior. Tom gains new insights as he learns of Intress's amazing accomplishments and her titanic struggle against one of Perim's most astonishing pieces of BattleGear.

While exploring the wilds of Perim, Tom rescues a Player named Kit who offers to give Tom some Chaotic tips. But when Tom battles Kit in the Drome, he confronts an awesome new Creature with Attacks, Mugic, and BattleGear he's never seen before. Tom soon realizes his opponent is no ordinary Player - he's battling a CodeMaster!

When Kaz scans Borth-Majar, a bizarre two-in-one UnderWorlder, he gets more Creature than he bargained for. Locked in an intense Drome battle, Kaz finds out too late that getting Borth and Majar to work together is double-trouble. It's up to Tom to unlock the secret of Perim's oddest couple before Kaz gets crushed to code!

Tom wants to trade all his Mipedian cards because he distrusts the lizard-like warriors. His opinion changes, however, when he and Peyton are saved from certain destruction by a noble Mipedian named Tianne.
