Strange Jungle Animals Discovered

Scientists recently traveled to the South American country Suriname, which holds one of the last untouched tropical rain forests. This rain forest holds many hidden species, 46 of which were discovered during this recent trip. Some amazing and bizarre creatures were found, including what are now known as a spiny armored catfish, a cowboy frog and a crayola katydid.

The spiny armored catfish has tough, bony plates on its body that help protect it from hungry piranha. The cowboy frog gets its name because it has white fringes that hang off its legs. This feature makes it look like the frog is wearing fringed cowboy clothes! The frog also has unique heels on its feet that look similar to spurs. The crayola katydid earned its name because of its striking, bright colors that resemble a crayon.
