After years of hard work in India, a team of scientists has discovered 12 new species of frogs! The frogs were sometimes found deep in the brush of a tropical rainforest or hiding under a rock at night. It wasn’t easy to track down these new amphibians, as the species are rare and usually only live in a very small area of India. There were some very odd discoveries, such as the meowing night frog, which sounds more like a cat than a frog when it calls out.
Not only did this scientific team find 12 new kinds of frogs, they rediscovered three frog species that were thought to be extinct! Experts hope these frog discoveries will be bring more attention to endangered frogs in India. There aren’t many conservation efforts for Indian frogs right now, even though the animals are important to the environment.
If you discovered a new species of frog, what would you name it?
