A man living near Carnegie, Oklahoma recently discovered prehistoric mammoth bones in his backyard! The fossils included an 8-inch tooth and a huge jawbone. Mammoths went extinct in Oklahoma about 11,000 years ago.
According to an archeologist at the University of Oklahoma, these bones probably drifted in a stream for many years before they became lodged in gravel. Many ancient artifacts have been found in this area, such as stone tools that are more than 21,000 years old!
What kind of fossils would you want to find in your backyard?
