Human-Like Robot Wakes Up in Space

NASA recently sent a highly advanced, human-like robot to the International Space Station. It was stored on the space station for a short time without use but on Monday, the robot was finally turned on! Known as Robonaut 2, this high-tech machine will serve as a helper to astronauts.

It hasn’t been commanded to move yet but NASA was encouraged by the success of Robonaut 2’s “awakening.” Currently, the robot only has an upper body with a head and arms. Legs are now being designed for Robonaut 2 that will be launched into space in 2013. One day, the robot might be able to perform dangerous tasks like going on spacewalks.
